A search warrant on a Coralville residence has led to charges against one of its occupants.

Police say they executed a search warrant on the 2300 block of 10th Street at 11am Thursday. The occupant, 29-year-old Demarcus Covington, was on scene at the time.

Officers located over 60 grams of marijuana, packaging material, and a scale. They also located a firearm that Covington admitted to touching. Because he was previously convicted of domestic abuse assault in 2018, he was legally barred from having control of a gun as a felon.

Covington was taken into custody, charged with marijuana possession, failure to affix a drug tax stamp, and dominion or control of a firearm as a felon. If convicted on all counts, Covington could be sentenced to fifteen years in prison.
