Replacement of two bridges and construction of two new box culverts on Highway 1, just south of Black Diamond Road between Iowa City and Kalona, will be completed and the roadway reopened to traffic on Friday at 1pm. That’s according to the Iowa Department of Transportation’s Fairfield construction office.

There may be intermittent lane and shoulder closures over the next few weeks where flaggers will assist traffic through the work area to allow the contractor to finish the detail work for the project.

The project included the replacement of the existing steel girder bridge over Old Woman’s Creek with a concrete beam bridge, and replacement of the existing steel bridge over Old Man’s Creek with a rolled-steel bridge. In addition, two new reinforced concrete box culverts were constructed at Old Man’s Creek Overflow.
