An Iowa City transient has been taken into custody after allegedly failing to obey an order to stop harassing his ex-girlfriend.

According to police, 36-year-old Dominick Rice has engaged in a pattern of harassing behavior, communicating with her numerous times despite being issued a harassment warning on August 21st.

Rice allegedly called the woman at least 20 times on August 26th alone.

Rice also has repeatedly tried to enter the woman’s Governor Street apartment and has been seen at the woman’s residence despite being issued a trespass warning on August 24th.

The ex-girlfriend says she is very fearful for her safety and believes Rice to be mentally unstable.

A warrant was issued for his arrest this week; he was taken into custody Wednesday afternoon. He’s been charged with 3rd degree Harassment, a simple misdemeanor punishable by a jail sentence of up to 30 days if convicted.  A no-contact order was also requested.

Rice had a previous warrant on a failure to appear for an arraignment on a theft charge last month.
