The Cedar Rapids Community School District is revising their return to learn plan after August’s derecho damaged buildings.
The Gazette reports that elementary students will start the school year on site, with middle and high school students learning remotely until buildings are ready for occupancy.
Superintendent Noreen Bush says that internet provider ImOn has received a grant that will allow them to provide internet to students who otherwise wouldn’t have it. The district also has hot spots that other students can use.
Nearly two-thirds of district students signed up for in person learning, with about 30 percent signed up for online-exclusive learning.
The Gazette reports that high schoolers will have a virtual block schedule, with classes running 80 to 90 minutes. Instead of taking seven classes a day, they will take four on “A” days and four on “B” days.
School is set to start September 21st.
