North Liberty man charged after passenger thrown from vehicle and injured

A North Liberty man faces up to six years in prison after allegedly driving while intoxicated and after his passenger was thrown from the vehicle.

According to police, 37-year-old Joshua Lenz of Wenrose Drive was traveling near the intersection of Curtis Bridge Road Northeast and Twinmill Drive Saturday just before 2am, and was driving intoxicated. A passenger was thrown from the vehicle and hit his head on the side of the road.

The passenger had to be transported to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics and was in the Surgical ICU with a head injury.

Lenz was booked into the Johnson County Jail. He’s been charged with Operating While Under the Influence, and Serious Injury by Vehicle. He was released Saturday afternoon; no appearance date has been listed under Iowa Courts.
