An Iowa City man was taken into custody after allegedly breaking into a woman’s residence that he has a no-contact order with.
The incident occurred just after 3am Monday, when 29-year-old Brandon Blake of Highland Court went to the woman’s residence at the Eden Apartments on Muscatine Avenue. He’s accused of climbing the back patios, forcing entry into the apartment, and trashing the residence.
Blake and the woman are in a domestic relationship and have a child together, but a no contact order was issued on July 30th.
Blake is also accused of telling the woman he was going to assault her, and proceeded to make good on his promise while she was holding onto their infant child. During the reported assault, the woman was struck, had her hair pulled, and was bit near her eye. She fled for her safety, and police found Blake in her residence.
While being arrested and escorted to the patrol car, Blake allegedly thrashed around and kicked the apartment door, further shattering it.
Officers at the scene located blood on the outside patios, corroborating the woman’s account, and Blake allegedly told the officer that the woman he assaulted was lucky police arrived, because he would have killed her.
Blake has been charged with first degree Burglary, Child Endangerment, 2nd offense Domestic Assault, 2nd degree Harassment, Interference with Official Acts, and violation of a No-Contact Order. If convicted on all counts, he could be sentenced to over thirty years in prison.
