Railroad work to close Highway 6 west of Atalissa starting Monday (detour map included)

FAIRFIELD, Iowa – August 20, 2020 – Repairs to the Iowa Interstate Railroad crossing on Iowa 6, will require closing the road west of Atallissa, beginning at 8 a.m. Monday, August 24, until 12 p.m. Saturday, August 29, weather permitting, according to the Iowa Department of Transportation’s District 5 Office.

While the crossing is closed, through traffic will be detoured on Iowa 70, Iowa 22, U.S. 61, and Iowa 38. Local traffic will have access to Iowa 6 except for where the road crosses the railroad tracks near mile marker 273.26 (just west of Atalissa).

The Iowa DOT reminds motorists to drive with caution, obey posted speed limit and other signs in the work area, and be aware that traffic fines for moving violations are at least double in work zones. As in all work zones, drivers should stay alert, allow ample space between vehicles and wear seat belts.
