Corridor transit organizations have announced several changes that go into effect today.
Most notably, Cedar Rapids Transit will resume service today; it was interrupted by last week’s storm damage. Buses may be delayed due to ongoing issues; riders can use the bus tracker available at www.ridecr.com.
In Coralville, regular routes and services will begin today and fares will once again be collected. Routes returning to their normal schedules include the Lantern Park and 10th Street Routes, the Night Route, North Liberty Route, and Saturday Route. Face masks or coverings are required on Coralville Public Transit buses, as ordered by the Johnson County Board of Health and the Johnson County Board of Supervisors. Social distancing should be practiced at bus stops, when boarding riding, and exiting the buses. Disinfecting wipes and hand sanitizer is available on each bus.
Iowa City Transit is making changes to the Downtown Shuttle routes effective today to increase capacity on the south Downtown Shuttle route and encourage social distancing as the University of Iowa begins its fall semester.
The North shuttle will be discontinued; the South shuttle will now have four trips per hour. Starting at 7:15am, the shuttle will depart from the interchange at 15 minute increments. This will add 25 percent more passenger capacity. IC Transit plans on adding extra buses to the 8 and 9am downtown shuttle.
To mitigate the spread of coronavirus, buses and transit facilities will continue to be deep-cleaned and sanitized. Plastic barriers are in place in the driver area to promote social distancing, and all drivers and riders are required to wear face coverings.
