ICPD: CR man fought with girlfriend while stopped near patrol car, was arrested on unrelated charges

A Cedar Rapids man allegedly caught the attention of Iowa City Police when he fought with his girlfriend in his car within view of a patrol car, leading to his arrest on unrelated charges.

According to arrest records, the officer conducted a traffic stop on a Green 2010 Toyota Corolla just before 1am Sunday at a stoplight at North Dubuque Street and Interstate 80. The couple inside had been fighting, catching the officer’s attention.

The driver, identified as 26-year-old Nicholas Taylor of 33rd Street SE, was found to have a barred and suspended license. Taylor was suspended for non-payment of Iowa fines dating back to April 4th, 2019. His license is barred as a habitual offender from November 11th, 2019 to November 9th, 2021.

Taylor was arrested and charged with Driving While Barred and Driving While Suspended. If convicted, he faces a maximum of two years in prison.
