University of Iowa Police say a suspect demanded they take him to jail, so they took him to jail early Saturday morning. He was then bailed out and was subsequently arrested again a half-hour later.

Arrest records indicate 29-year-old Skyler Burkett was driving eastbound on Court Street just after 2am Saturday when he turned northbound onto Gilbert Street, spinning his tires as he did so. That caught the attention of a UI Police officer, who pulled Burkett over.

Once stopped, Burkett allegedly got out of the car and said, “Take me to jail.”

Police say Burkett showed multiple signs of intoxication and registered a blood alcohol content of .151 on a portable Breathalyzer test and .130 on a Datamaster.

Burkett is charged with Operating While Intoxicated, Driving While Suspended and Reckless Driving. He was bailed out of the Johnson County Jail just before 5:30 Saturday morning. Just before 6am, police received a report that Burkett had hit a subject with a stick and was running through the woods near Pearson Education on the 2500 block of North Dodge Street, just north of Interstate 80. Burkett was found walking in the area by an officer. An investigation determined that Burkett had been picked up at the Johnson County Jail by his girlfriend and her mother. Burkett and his girlfriend got into an argument in the car, and he allegedly punched her in the face. She had injuries consistent with her version of events.

Burkett claimed his girlfriend had assaulted him, but police say he could not elaborate further. He also showed signs of intoxication, admitted to still being intoxicated, and registered a blood alcohol content of .084% at 6:05am.

Burkett now faces additional charges of Domestic Abuse Assault Causing Injury and Public Intoxication. If convicted of those charges, he faces a maximum of 13 months in jail.

Burkett listed his residence as an address on Foster Road in Iowa City upon his first arrest, and an address on Cottage Reserve Road in Solon upon his second arrest.
