A Coralville man has been taken into custody after reportedly breaking his probation requirements.

According to court records, 42-year-old Bradley Pechman was released from jail on July 27th after serving a negotiated sentence for Assault causing Serious Injury, a Class D Felony.  The Department of Correctional Services alleges that since then, Pechman has engaged in non-stop binge drinking, has been suicidal and injured himself to the point of needing emergency medical care and psychiatric stabilization.

Police were dispatched to Pechman’s Holiday Road residence three times on Wednesday due to his alleged extreme intoxication, being verbally belligerent and threatening to kill other tenants, setting off fire extinguishers, and being belligerent with Coralville Fire Department staff. Police expressed concern that Pechman would harm others if allowed to remain free.

A warrant was issued Thursday, and police made contact with him just before 8pm. Pechman reportedly was holding a CO2 pistol, had slurred speech, unsteady balance, and an odor of ingested alcohol. He blew a .250 on a PBT.

Officers confiscated the pistol as they arrested him, and Pechman is accused of stating he would put a bullet in uniformed police officers’ heads, and that he wished he could shoot them. He also told officers to give him his pistol back.

Pechman was charged with possession of weapons while intoxicated and first degree harassment. If convicted on those two charges, he could be sentenced to up to three additional years in prison.
