An Iowa City man named in a domestic abuse protective order is accused of buying a handgun.
The Johnson County Sheriff’s Office says the alleged purchase happened at 2605 Naples Avenue, the address of Menard’s, around 9:30am on August 1st. 35-year-old Corbin Ranslem of Langenberg Avenue is accused of buying a Sig Sauer P220R handgun from a private citizen despite a protective order that says he is not allowed to possess a firearm while the order is in effect. Ranslem was convicted of Domestic Abuse Assault on May 11th after he attacked his estranged wife in March. Online records show he has violated the protective order multiple times.
Ranslem was booked into the Johnson County Jail just after 5:45 Saturday morning and charged with Dominion or Control of a Firearm by a Domestic Abuse Offender. If convicted, he faces a maximum of five years in prison.
