A survey sent out last week to University of Iowa students shows a majority planning on adhering the school policy of wearing face coverings while on campus.
The Cedar Rapids Gazette reports that about 21 percent of the 2000 students surveyed completed it.
Respondents said they’re taking the coronavirus seriously, with 77 percent saying they’re very likely to wear masks, and 15 percent indicating they’re somewhat likely to mask up.
Female respondents topped male respondents in being very likely to wear masks, by 84 to 69 percent.
However, about three-quarters of them say they’re concerned about the behavior of their fellow students. While they’re wearing masks in public and avoiding large gatherings, 87 percent say they doubt whether their fellow students will follow suit once the school year begins.
Those who responded believe that wearing a mask protects those made vulnerable by working on campus by a75% majority.
The University will be distributing free face coverings to students, and is requiring everyone to take COVID19 training to outline their responsibilities as they begin the school year. Students will be asked to sign a pledge to follow the guidelines set up to keep the campus safe.
