The three finalists announced Thursday for Iowa City Police Chief come from the East, the South, and our backyard.

City Manager Geoff Fruin introduced the finalists as Jason Lando of Pittsburgh, Dustin Liston of El Paso Texas, and Jeremy Logan of Oelwein.

The national search began immediately following the announced retirement of Jody Matherly in February. He wrapped up a 37-year career in law enforcement by serving as Iowa City’s police chief for the last three years.

Lando has been with the Pittsburgh Bureau of Police since 2000 and has been Commander since 2014; Liston has been in the El Paso Police Department since 1998 and has been Lieutenant since 2014. Logan has been Oelwein Police Chief since 2002 and started his career there in 1993.

A meet-and-greet featuring the candidates will be announced at a future date.  Social distancing protocols will be put in place, and a video option will be provided as well. No specific date on when Fruin will appoint the new Chief of Police has been posted on the city’s website.
