A Cedar Rapids man was taken into custody Sunday afternoon after being found driving under the influence.
Police say 34-year-old Casey Hoff of Mount Vernon Road Southeast was observed heading southbound on Highway 1 Northeast into Iowa City. Deputies say Hoff was changing speeds and failing to maintain lanes. They followed him into the parking lot at HyVee Gas on North Dodge Street and saw him enter at a high rate of speed and hit a parking pole.
Hoff allegedly admitted to using methamphetamine prior to driving.
Officers reportedly found a white crystal-like substance at time of contact. A PBT showed no blood-alcohol content, but showed impairment on SFST testing. Police say Hoff then agreed to a urine test.
He was charged with OWI first offense and possession of methamphetamine. If convicted on both charges, Hoff could be sentenced to a maximum of two years in prison.
