An Iowa City woman has been arrested after an alleged assault against her husband with a large wrench.
According to the arrest report, 26-year-old Gabriella Castillo Lopez of the Sunrise manufactured housing facility on South Scott Boulevard returned home from work Sunday night around 9 o’clock to find her husband and children away. She then drove to her cousin’s residence in the park, and reportedly was upset that her husband was there drinking and not paying attention to their children, who were also on scene.
A verbal argument reportedly ensued, which turned physical when Castillo Lopez got a large wrench out of the trunk of her car and struck her husband with it in the forehead. The beaning left the man with a small hole in his forehead that was bleeding profusely. However, he refused medical treatment.
Castillo Lopez was taken into custody and charged with Domestic Abuse Assault with Intent to Inflict Serious Injury, an aggravated misdemeanor punishable by a prison sentence of up to two years if convicted.
A no-contact order was requested between the two.
