An area transient was arrested after allegedly taking a bat to the Waterfront HyVee and using it on a person there.

Police say the incident occurred Sunday just after 4pm when 48-year-old Dung Doan brought a baseball bat into the store, began swinging and hit the counter with the weapon. He’s also accused of hitting a victim twice with the bat, causing pain. Doan then reportedly chased the victim with the bat, wielding it in a threatening manner.

Doan was taken into custody and charged with Assault while displaying a Dangerous Weapon, an aggravated misdemeanor punishable by a prison sentence of up to two years if convicted. A no-contact order was requested between the involved parties.
