A North Liberty man was taken into custody for his second OWI after losing control of his motorcycle late Saturday night.

According to arrest reports, 25-year-old River Whitters of Twilight Drive was called in as a reckless driver after reportedly leaving Bobber’s Bar and Grill sometime between 10:30 and 11pm. An officer behind Whitters allegedly saw him run a red light, failed to yield on Highway 965, turned onto Golfview Drive and lost control, laying his Triumph Thunderbird motorcycle on its side.

An OWI investigation allegedly discovered a strong odor of ingested alcohol, bloodshot watery eyes, slurred speech and unsteady balance. Police say Whitters was confrontational, but did agree to SFSTs. He refused PBT and Datamaster testing.

Whitters was charged with OWI second offense, an aggravated misdemeanor punishable by a prison sentence of up to two years if convicted.
