An accident at the Interstate 80/380 interchange has led to a Minnesota man’s arrest.

Coralville police were called to the interchange just after 9:30 Friday morning for a car in the ditch off the southwest loop. An investigation determined that 30-year-old Peter Melendez of Rochester had struck a landscaping barrier and damaged his vehicle. Police say he showed multiple signs of intoxication, admitted to drinking and refused breath testing.

Melendez was arrested for Operating While Intoxicated. He allegedly repeatedly refused to exit his vehicle when asked to do so and attempted to pull away from officers upon apprehension. One officer cut his leg in the process of taking Melendez into custody.

Melendez was additionally charged with Interference With Official Acts Causing Bodily Injury, a Serious Misdemeanor punishable by a maximum of one year in jail.
