The New York Times reports that passages of text for Ashley Hinson’s campaign website were lifted from other sources, including the Times itself.

The paper cited three passages that were identical to a story they published on March 11th in Hinson’s essay, “Creating America’s new normal; China must be held accountable.”

The Cedar Rapids Gazette reports that once informed of the issue by the New York Times, the Hinson campaign took down some of the pieces that contained copied passages from other outlets.

Hinson sent out a tweet Monday saying she was unaware of the plagiarism when the drafts were presented to her by her staff. She apologized and said that those responsible “will be held accountable.”

Hinson is running as the Republican candidate for the 1st Congressional District against Abby Finkenauer, who is seeking her second term.
