An Iowa City woman was taken into custody Sunday night after allegedly forcing her way into an apartment to recover a phone.

According to arrest reports, 29-year-old Brittany Wood of Beach View Drive went to a residence on the 1100 block of Mormon Trek Boulevard around 7pm and confronted the resident, demanding a missing cell phone she thought was there. When the woman told her she didn’t have the phone, Wood is accused of forcing her way into the residence and assaulting the woman in front of her 8-year-old son.

Wood then reportedly destroyed a flat-screen TV and a lamp before locking herself inside a bathroom with a kitchen knife and kicking the door off its hinges.

Further investigation determined that Wood also broke the glove compartment of the Jeep she rode to the residence, and allegedly threw its contents down a nearby hill.

Wood was taken into custody and charged with 1st Degree Burglary, child endangerment and 5th degree Criminal Mischief. If convicted on all charges, she could be sentenced to over 27 years in prison.
