Coralville Police say a man tried to rob his own brother-and-law, claiming he had a gun and threatening to kill him in the process.

Officers were called to the 900 block of 25th Avenue just before 9:45pm on July 8th. Witnesses claimed 34-year-old Martel Horton of Boston Way had approached his brother-in-law’s car in an intimidating manner.

The brother-in-law returned to the scene and told investigators that Horton had demanded his wallet, claimed he had a gun and said he would kill him. Horton then allegedly reached into the car window in an attempt to grab his brother-in-law’s wallet from his pants pocket. The brother-in-law says he pushed Horton away and drove off.

Horton was booked into the Johnson County Jail just after 7pm Saturday and charged with 2nd Degree Robbery and 1st Degree Harassment. If convicted on both charges, he faces a maximum of 12 years in prison.
