Corrections officer injured by inmate at IMCC

A corrections officer was injured after being assaulted by an inmate Friday night at the Iowa Medical and Classification Center.

According to the Iowa Department of Corrections, the incident happened around 7pm Friday when an unidentified inmate began throwing chairs. An officer responded by deploying O.C. spray, but the inmate charged the officer, punching the officer several times and trying to choke the officer.

Other staff pulled the inmate away. The officer who was attacked was treated for minor injuries and returned to duty.

The incident remains under investigation.
