An Oxford man has been taken into custody after allegedly assaulting his wife.

Authorities say the woman was fleeing an abusive situation, but was located at the Heartland Inn on 2nd Street in Coralville Wednesday night at 8pm by her husband, 31-year-old Aaron Tripses of Black Hawk Avenue Southwest.

Tripses allegedly accosted her in a hallway he had been waiting in because of the lack of security cameras there, attacked the woman and placed her in a choke hold. He dragged her to his waiting car, and the woman said she nearly lost consciousness and suffered neck pain as a result.

Tripses is accused of then striking the woman several times in the face with his fists and a cell phone.

He took his wife back to their house, where he continued to physically assault her. She told authorities that at one point she tried to escape but Tripses prevented her from leaving. At some point, Tripses returned to the hotel room his wife was staying and went in, using one of the keys he took from her. He recovered her belongings, which included two pistols and her cell phone.

The woman was able to send a text message for help to a third party, who notified authorities. They arrived at the home Thursday before 11am to conduct a welfare check. Tripses answered the door and denied his wife was there, but she called out from another room that she was.

Tripses fled with a 2-year-old child from the residence, and a subsequent search located them in a ditch, hiding in a bush.

Tripses was taken into custody and charged with child endangerment, domestic abuse assault impeding airflow, two counts of domestic abuse assault causing injury, 3rd degree kidnapping, and false imprisonment. If convicted on all counts, he could be sentenced to up to 20 years in prison.

A no-contact order was requested between the two parties involved.
