More details have been learned about the Monday morning stabbing that sent a Cedar Rapids woman to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.
The Cedar Rapids Gazette reports that 30-year-old Anthony Depolis had planned to kill his wife, 37-year-old Diana Depolis.
In a criminal complaint, Depolis allegedly told police that he had purchased a knife in anticipation of using it against her, and attempted to kill her Monday morning.
When officers arrived after 9am Monday at the Creekside Apartments, they found Diana Depolis with a serious stab wound to the neck, and defensive wounds on her arms and hands. Anthony Depolis was still on scene and had blood on his hands and clothing. A search warrant executed at the apartment turned up the knife used in the attack.
Ms. Depolis was treated on site before being sent to a hospital. Public safety spokesman Greg Buelow told the Gazette that she remains hospitalized, but is now in stable condition.
Anthony Depolis faces charges of attempted murder, willful injury and domestic abuse assault with use of a weapon. If convicted on all counts, he could be sentenced to up to 37 years in prison.
