Blocking the entrance to the Emma Goldman Clinic has led to the arrest of a Coralville man.

Iowa City Police were called to the South Dubuque Street clinic just after 3:45pm on June 19th for a man standing in the entrance with his arms crossed, refusing to let anyone enter. The man in question, 46-year-old William Owens-Holst of 9th Street, told arriving officers he would not be moving and would be stopping anyone from entering. After multiple attempts to convince Owens-Holst to move, officers removed him by force and escorted him to the sidewalk. Police told Owens-Holst he was free to express his views from the sidewalk, but he insisted he was going to return to the doorway to block access.

Owens-Holst was placed under arrest, allegedly struggling as officers tried to take him into custody. He’s charged with Trespassing and Interference with Official Acts. If convicted on both charges, he faces a maximum of 30 days in jail.

A case management conference is set for September 21st.
