A Davenport man was taken into custody after being found going through a vehicle on Iowa City’s southeast side.
According to police, 28-year-old Jaramin Vidalez of East 15th Street had driven alone to the 4400 block of Sand Road and was observed going through a vehicle that he didn’t have permission to enter.
Vidalez allegedly had bloodshot watery eyes, and smelled strongly of ingested alcohol. He failed HGN testing and refused all further tests, saying that they were not admissible in court.
A check of Vidalez’s driving record showed his status as barred, and two previous convictions for OWI in 2018 were discovered.
The arresting officer says that Vidalez repeatedly informed him that he was going to rape the officer and kill him very slowly by removing his head.
Vidalez has been initially charged with 3rd degree burglary of a motor vehicle, driving while barred habitual offender, and 3rd offense OWI. If convicted on all charges, he could be sentenced to up to nine years in prison.
