The Iowa Freedom Riders group say they will be marching in solidarity with Des Moines Black Lives Matter in Iowa City and several other cities in the state, calling for actions on state demands by Governor Kim Reynolds.

The initial list of demands includes the decriminalization of possession of 40 grams or less of cannabis across the state, and the expunging records of those charged with cannabis-related offenses. It also demands the reduction of probation length for ex-convicts, and no drug testing for marijuana.

Governor Reynolds has already indicated she will be restoring voting rights to felons, but hasn’t announced any details on when; the demands call for an immediate executive order reinstating the voting rights of all Iowa felons who have served their sentences.

They’re also demanding that the state legislature end juvenile detention, and reallocating those resources into education and public mental health services.

The group says that the march is intended to be peaceful, and will begin at 7pm starting at the Pentacrest.
