A Cedar Rapids man was arrested Monday at the Eastern Iowa Airport after a security checkpoint turned up a folding rifle in his carry-on bag.
The Gazette reports that 58-year-old Scott Pennebaker was on his way to Pittsburgh when a security officer at an X-ray machine noticed that his bag appeared to have a loaded magazine and a folding rifle.
A subsequent search of the bag turned up a KEL TEC sub-2000 folding rifle and a 33-round magazine with 25 rounds of ammo loaded into it.
Pennebaker told officers that he had gone shooting and forgot the firearm and ammunition were in the backpack.
He’s been charged with violating screening checkpoint restrictions, a charge that includes imprisonment for up to a year and a fine in excess of $13,000.
