The protests in Iowa City continued Sunday night, as members of the Iowa Freedom Riders took their concerns to another City Councilor’s home.

After marching to Mayor Bruce Teague and councilor John Thomas’ homes on previous evenings, the Daily Iowan reports a crowd of about 200 made it to Pauline Taylor’s house at about 8:30pm.

Taylor told the gathering that she will take actionable steps to meet the Freedom Riders’ demands. However, the DI reports that there was strong verbal opposition when Taylor appeared to be unaware of the meaning and reasoning surrounding some of the group’s demands.

She applauded the group for refraining from spray painting over the past several nights, but noted that she didn’t like the chant, “All cops are bastards” that was used the last time Taylor marched with them.

The group plans to meet again tonight at 6pm and visit the home of another city councilor. They announced that they will take a break from Tuesday to Thursday to allow the council to review its demands, then protest again on Friday. Freedom Riders plan to hold a family-friendly Juneteenth celebration on Saturday.
