An Iowa City transient was taken into custody after an alleged assault on a non-intimate female partner who he has a no-contact order with.
Police were called to the bridge on the 400 block of South Gilbert Sunday after 9pm for reports of a fight or assault. The female victim contacted authorities after she alleged that 32-year-old Jonathan Mitchell hit her multiple times on the top of her head and bitten her right forearm.
Officers noted the woman had a visible red swollen bite mark on the bottom of her right forearm, complete with teeth marks. She refused medical attention.
Mitchell was located under the bridge where the woman resides. Mitchell has two non-intimate no contact orders with the woman, one of which had not yet been served.
Mitchell was taken into custody and charged with violation of the no-contact order, and assault with intent to inflict serious injury. If convicted, he could be sentenced to up to two years in prison.
