Driving late at night with her lights off led to the OWI arrest of a Cedar Rapids woman in Coralville.
Coralville Police say they stopped 22-year-old Shelby Jencks of 27th Street Northwest just after 10:30pm Saturday on 5th Street for not activating her headlights. Upon contact, the officer noted that Jencks had bloodshot watery eyes, and she allegedly told him that she’d had a bottle of champagne. Responses to the officer’s questions were reportedly somewhat delayed.
After failing field testing, Jencks refused a PBT but consented to a Datamaster test post arrest, providing a blood-alcohol reading of .193.
Jencks was charged with first offense OWI, a serious misdemeanor punishable by a jail sentence of up to one year.
