An Iowa City man who was driving while revoked ended up being charged with his second OWI when his vehicle caught fire.
Police were dispatched to the northbound 8-mile marker on Interstate 380 Monday at about 8:20pm on reports of a vehicle fire. They came upon a Dodge Avenger on fire and spoke to the lone occupant of the vehicle, Meshak Mausa of Aster Avenue.
A check of Mausa’s driving record showed his status as revoke, and he reportedly showed signs of impairment on field testing. A PBT showed a blood-alcohol content of .154, and a subsequent Datamaster about a half hour later showed a reading of .124.
Having been convicted in March of this year of OWI, Mausa was charged with his second, and driving while denied or revoked. If convicted on both charges, he could be sentenced to up to three years in prison.
