A man accused of first degree murder in an April shooting has pleaded not guilty.
22-year-old Durojaiye Rosa was arrested on May 4th and accused of the murder of 21-year-old Kejuan Winters the morning of April 20th.
According to the Iowa City Police, Rosa and an unidentified woman were at a residence on the 1900 block of Broadway with Winters at around 10am when a second suspect, 44-year-old Reginald Little, entered the apartment.
Phone records obtained by warrant discovered that Rosa was communicating with Little about entering the apartment immediately before shots being fired. During a followup interview, Rosa allegedly admitted that he and the shooter discussed a plan to rob Winters, but not shoot him. Winters was unarmed.
The Johnson County Medical Examiner’s Department ruled Winters’ death as a homicide from gunshots to the chest and abdomen. Officials have neglected to say how many shots were fired or who’s being accused of shooting Winters.
Little was arrested May 8th in Texas and remains there awaiting extradition.
Court records show Rosa pleaded not guilty on Friday and waived his right to a speedy trial. A case management conference is scheduled for September 11th, and a jury trial on November 3rd.
