This is national EMS week, and the University of Iowa Health Care’s AirCare emergency responders are doing a special flyover throughout Eastern Iowa today.
The special helicopter formation will start at 8:30 this morning and head to Maquoketa, Dubuque and Galena, and this afternoon are scheduled to flyover St Luke’s and Mercy Hospitals in Cedar Rapids between 1 and 1:10. Between 1:45 and 2pm, the formation will flyover North Liberty, Coralville, the UIHC, and Mercy Hospital.
EMS week was first enacted by President Gerald Ford in 1974, and the AirCare service at the UIHC had its maiden flight in 1979. It was one of the first 15 programs of its kind in the nation.
