An Iowa City man who allegedly led a police chase earlier this month is back behind bars.
36-year-old Solomon Xayabath of the Modern Manor manufactured housing community was booked into the Johnson County Jail just after 2am Friday. Online records show he faces a parole violation hearing, and his case has been forwarded to the state parole board.
According to arrest records, Johnson County Sheriff’s deputies tried to pull Xayabath over around 10:40pm on May 5th for driving 65 miles per hour in a 35 mile-per-hour zone near Scott Boulevard and Wintergreen Drive.
Xayabath allegedly refused to pull over, instead leading deputies on a pair of chases that included traveling 75 in a 45 mile-per-hour zone and 65 in a 35 mile-per-hour zone. The sheriff’s office also says he ran a red light and a stop sign. He allegedly later admitted to eluding.
Xayabath is charged with Felony Eluding and Driving While Revoked. If convicted on both charges, he faces a maximum of six years in prison.
Xayabath is on parole after previous drug and OWI convictions out of Cedar County.
