COVID-19 may have ended the 2019-2020 school year prematurely, but it won’t stop in-person graduation ceremonies in the Iowa City Community School District.

District officials announced in an email to students and parents on Friday that the city’s four public high schools will have in-person graduation ceremonies May 28th through the 30th. Families will soon receive more information on how to sign up for whichever day and time is most convenient.

Graduating seniors will get to wear a cap and gown, walk across a stage, receive their diploma and have a picture taken. Social distancing rules will be in effect, including a ban on handshakes, hugs, and photos with school staff.

Families are asked to bring their own personal protective equipment.

More information will be sent out to families in the near future.

Iowa City’s four public high schools include City, West, Liberty and Tate.
