The Johnson County Agricultural Association has made the decision to cancel the grounds and grandstand entertainment at the 2020 Johnson County Fair.
In a release dated Thursday, Fair Board President Charlie Isaacs says that consultations with Johnson County Public Health, Johnson County Emergency Management, the county Board of Supervisors, and fair board members led to what he calls the best decision, adding that volunteers, visitors, youth of Johnson County and staff health and safety are the main concern.
The Agricultural Association is working with Iowa State University Extension and Outreach of Johnson County to provide opportunities to 4H and FFA members to showcase their accomplishments and talents despite the cancellations.
Isaacs says the 2021 fair will be held July 25th through the 28th.
Meanwhile, the fair board for the Cedar County Fair say they are moving forward with planning their 2020 fair, scheduled for July 8th through the 12th. An announcement published in the Tipton Conservative on Wednesday says the Fair Board is currently still scheduling all their grandstand events, but cautions that they have a lot of decisions to make in a short amount of time on how to make the fair safe for everyone to attend. An announcement is expected by June 1st with final decisions on the fair.
Their announcement ends, “Keep working on your projects! Stay positive about the 2020 cedar County Fair. We are doing all we can to make this happen. We want a 2020 Cedar County Fair.”
