IOWA CITY, Iowa – The Iowa football team’s recruiting hot streak in its 2021 recruiting class continued on Wednesday when three-star receiver Keagan Johnson announced his commitment to the Hawkeyes.
Johnson, a native of Bellevue, Neb., chose Iowa over his other top school, Nebraska.
The 6-foot-1, 188-pound Johnson said Iowa receivers coach Kelton Copeland was the deciding factor in his decision.
“What he has done for the receiving corps is something I want to be a part of,” Johnson said. “I’m excited about the future of the offense.”
The decision to choose Iowa over Nebraska was especially tough for Johnson, considering his father, Clester Johnson played at Nebraska from 1991-95 and won two national titles with the Cornhuskers.
Keagan Johnson said his father was supportive, not persuasive, throughout the process.
“He didn’t steer me in any direction, and he trusted that I would make the decision for myself,” Keagan Johnson said.
Keagan Johnson is the 15th player to commit to the class and the seventh to make a verbal pledge in less than a month.
According to Rivals.com, Keagan Johnson also held scholarship offers from Iowa State, Kansas State, North Dakota State, Northern Illinois, South Dakota State and Wyoming.
Last season, Keagan Johnson caught 52 passes for 672 yards and eight touchdowns.
