Mercy Iowa City will be reducing hours and furloughing workers as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.
The Cedar Rapids Gazette reports that officials don’t expect the measures to last longer than 12 weeks, but Mercy spokeswoman Margaret Reese said in an e-mail to the paper, “The postponement of hundreds of procedures and surgeries, along with the costs incurred to prepare for a surge of patients with COVID-19, resulted in a corresponding decrease in revenue.”
Hospital executives and management will see reduced salaries as well. All workers will continue to receive benefits.
The action affects Mercy Iowa City and not the entire MercyOne health care sytem. Unity Point Health did similar furloughs last month.
