Second arrest made in CR murder case

A second arrest has been made in connection with a Cedar Rapids murder case.

According to a CRPD news release, 47-year-old Dawn Louise Benavidez was arrested Wednesday at her residence in Davenport for Accessory After the Fact.

Benavidez is accused of assisting in the escape of 24-year-old Todd Ricky Jenkins, who’s accused of killing 27-year-old Reginald Ward Junior of Moline, Illinois. Ward was shot and killed just before 8 a.m. on October 30th at the Kum & Go at the intersection of 32nd Street and 1st Avenue Northeast.

Police say after the murder Benavidez and another individual went to Muscatine to help Jenkins drive back to Davenport, and they helped conceal his whereabouts from police.

Jekins as arrested at an Aurora, Illinois motel last month and charged with 1st Degree Murder and Going Armed with Intent.
