Two area airports will be getting aid to help respond to the COVID-19 emergency.
In a press release from the Federal Aviation Administration, US Secretary of Transportation Elaine Chao announced over $70 million in airport aid in Iowa alone.
$22.8 million will go to the Eastern Iowa Airport, while the Iowa City Municipal Airport will get $69,000.
Chao said the money will help fund continued operations of the nation’s airports and help save workers’ jobs.
Air travel is down over 90 percent across the country, and it’s unknown when the airline industry will get back to pre-coronavirus levels.
