A Coralville woman who allegedly took meth in front of her 4-year-old son in February was taken into custody Sunday.
According to police, they were called to the 1st Avenue residence of 41-year-old Britney Prunty around 4:45am on February 24th on her reports of having breathing problems. When the officer arrived, he was shown to where Prunty was lying by her four-year-old son.
After a brief exchange with the woman, Prunty reportedly informed the officer that she was having difficulty breathing and that her heart was racing as a result of having just taken Meth.
The officer allegedly found a needle a few feet from where Prunty was lying on the floor, unattended and within reach of the child. Police say the child was alone, in Prunty’s care, before, during and after her use of methamphetamine.
A warrant was issued for her arrest the following day; she was booked into the Johnson County Jail at 1:50am Sunday. She’s charged with Child Endangerment via Meth Exposure, a Class D Felony punishable by a prison sentence of up to five years if convicted.
