An Iowa City man faces assault and harassment charges after an alleged incident in his home Monday night.
According to police, 31-year-old Eric Cary of Triple Crown Lane and the female victim were engaged in an argument at their residence. Cary was reportedly intoxicated, and began trashing the apartment.
The woman says that while he was thrashing around, Cary grabbed a notebook and threw it at her, hitting her in the right leg. The two reportedly continued to argue in close proximity to each other, and Cary is accused of cocking his fist back as if he was going to hit the woman.
She moved away from Cary, but he allegedly followed and continued to argue with her. She reportedly asked Cary what he would do if a man was talking to their child the way he was talking to her, and he allegedly said he would “steel off on them.” When she asked what that meant, Carey offered to show her and told her that she deserved to be hit.
The woman believed she was going to be assaulted and told police that Cary was making threatening comments towards her. She added that she is in fear of Cary and requested a no-contact order.
A check of court records shows that Cary has been convicted once before of domestic assault, back in February of 2018.
He was charged with 2nd offense Domestic Abuse Assault and 2nd degree Harassment, and could be sentenced to up to three years in prison if convicted. A no contact order was granted by judge Jason Burns and a preliminary hearing was scheduled for April 17th.
