A Coralville man is facing multiple charges after being found with drugs and counterfeit bills during a probation appointment.
According to the report from the parole officer, 25-year-old Yassine Assem was brought to the John R. Stratton Center Monday by the High Risk Unit for the purpose of GPS enrollment.
Assem’s behavior led to a search of his person, and allegedly turned up seventeen counterfeit $100 bills, 3 credit cards not in his name, and a baggie containing a white powdery substance that tested positive on field testing for methamphetamine. A folded up dollar bill was also reportedly found, containing a similar crystal-like substance.
Assem was booked at the Johnson County Jail at 5:42pm Monday. He’s charged with Second Degree Theft, Forgery, and three counts of Possession. If convicted on all counts, he could be sentenced to up to 21 years in prison. A probation revocation hearing has been scheduled for July 6th.
