An Iowa City man who was speaking with officers about a domestic altercation is accused of calling 911 to file a complaint during the incident.
Police say an officer was dispatched to the 1700 block of Gleason Avenue regarding a 911 hangup Monday at around 3:30am. The officer learned that there was a reported altercation between 22-year-old Kevin Guaman Dumitru and the mother of his child.
When Guaman Dumitru found out that the woman called 911, he allegedly became agitated.
When police were attempting to leave, Guaman Dumitru followed them outside, started yelling and refused to go back into the house. He allegedly had bloodshot watery eyes, and smelled strongly of ingested alcohol. Officers say while they were speaking with Guaman Dumitru, he called 911 to file a complaint.
He was charged with false report of a 911 call, and public intoxication. Those are each simple misdemeanors punishable by a jail sentence of up to thirty days each if convicted.
