An independent Sharon Center trucker’s keen eye and desire to help the Johnson County community led to thousands of protective masks being delivered over the weekend.
The Cedar Rapids Gazette reports that Andy Winborn was on one of his regular runs to Colorado when he spotted a billboard advertising masks for sale. He contacted the company and put them in touch with Johnson County Emergency Management Agency head Dave Wilson.
Wilson bought everything the company had, and Winborn brought them back to Iowa.
The shipment, which consisted of 2000 KN95 masks and 10,000 procedural masks, arrived Sunday. The masks were divided between the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics and Mercy Iowa City.
The Gazette also reports that the Iowa National Guard brought 480 disposable face shields, 900 pairs of gloves, 180 gowns and 2000 procedural masks to Johnson County officials. It was part of an order the county placed through the state from the national stockpile of medical supplies.
