A Coralville man allegedly took sheltering in place to the extreme Friday afternoon after police say he attacked the mother of his child when she wanted to leave their apartment.

According to arrest records, 26-year-old Flavy Moningi and the woman got into an argument at their 4th Avenue apartment just before 12:45 Friday afternoon. The woman became out-of-control and tried to leave with the couple’s infant child when Moningi allegedly tried to keep her there by force. An independent witness told police Moningi pushed her forcefully against a sliding glass door, and as she fell to the floor he hit her. Moningi also allegedly choked the woman with one hand, then two, with the witness hearing the woman gasping for air.

The woman had redness on the right side of her face and complained of pain under her right jawbone.

Moningi is charged with Domestic Abuse Assault Impeding Airflow Causing Injury and Domestic Abuse Assault Causing Injury. If convicted on both charges, he faces a maximum of six years in prison.
