An Iowa City man has been taken into custody after a probation violation on a first degree theft conviction.
According to court records, 18-year-old Travis Holman Jr. of Muscatine Avenue was involved in a robbery on April 4th last year in the 3000 block of Wayne Avenue. Police reports indicate that Holman and another accomplice flagged down a person in the parking lot of Tate High School just before 2:30pm and reportedly arranged a later marijuana purchase. A SnapChat post from the two directed the victim to meet them at the Wayne Avenue location a couple of hours later. When the seller arrived, Holman got into the passenger seat while the second person sat behind the seller in the backseat. When the marijuana was allegedly produced, Holman reportedly grabbed at it and a struggle ensued. The seller alleges that the man behind him had a gun and put the barrel to the back of his head, then struck him multiple times in the head with the gun. Holman struck the seller in the face, and the two took off on foot.
Holman was charged with 1st degree Robbery and 1st degree Theft, and on September 16th he accepted a plea deal that dismissed the robbery charge and deferred the theft charge.
The Department of Correctional Services indicates that Holman canceled his probation appointment on December 11th and failed to report to four subsequently scheduled appointments. His probation was revoked on January 31st and a warrant was issued on February 3rd.
