The Iowa City Community School District is responding to the needs of students who depend on their schools for their meals.
In a release from the District on Thursday, they announced the establishment of drive-through or walk up meal pickup locations.
Starting March 23rd, the sites will provide lunch for the day, along with breakfast for the following day. Families will be asked to wait in their car and personnel will provide meals for each child in the vehicle, per USDA federal guidelines. Meals will be distributed between 11am and 1pm and participants are asked not to congregate or linger after getting their meals.
The schools participating include City High, Hills Elementary, North Central Junior High, Northwest Junior High, Twain Elementary, West High, and Wood Elementary.
The District will also have pick up sites at four mobile home parks, including Breckenridge, Cole/Thatcher, Lakeridge and Regency.
Those who cannot get to the sites and need additional resources for food assistance can contact the United Way of Johnson County at 319-338-7823 or at www.unitedwayjwc.org.
